Baxter Warrior Crew Connection

Back to School Edition

August 25, 2026

Welcome Back!

Dear Baxter Elementary Families,

We are excited to welcome our students back for a new school year! I hope you had a wonderful summer and had plenty of opportunities to enjoy time with family and friends.

I am grateful to begin my second year at Baxter alongside our amazing team of educators and staff. Our team has been working diligently to prepare for the year ahead, and we are eager to welcome our students and families back to school. As both your principal and a first-time kindergarten mom, I can genuinely say that there is nowhere I would rather have my children attend school or anywhere I would rather come to work each day.

Whether you are a returning family or brand new to Baxter, we are so happy to have you as part of our school community. We believe that strong partnerships between our staff and families make a meaningful difference in the lives of our students. When we work together, communicate openly, and support one another, we create an environment where our children can learn, grow, and thrive.

We look forward to a wonderful year filled with learning, growth, and connection. Thank you for being an important part of Baxter Elementary—we are so glad you are here!

Please take a few moments to read through the remainder of this letter, as it includes important information for the upcoming school year.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Demuth

Transportation, Drop-off & Dismissal Process

Transportation
Information regarding transportation will be coming soon. Please contact the district transportation coordinator at 454-6920 if you have not received information by Open House on September 2nd. Students will be unable to ride buses until they have received bus cards.

Drop-off Procedure
  • Our doors open at 7:30 a.m.
  • Baxter Elementary Drop Off Procedure: We ask the cooperation of all parents/guardians regarding the time that children arrive at school each day. Please do not send your children to school before 7:30 a.m. as there is no one to supervise before this time and the doors will be locked. Beginning at 7:30 a.m., students may enter the building. Supervision will be provided in the cafeteria, library, gym or playground. Breakfast begins at 7:30 a.m. and children needing to eat breakfast should eat breakfast prior to going anywhere else in the school building. The first bell rings at 8:00 a.m. and all students are expected to go directly to their classroom, as the school day starts at 8:10 a.m. Students arriving to the classrooms after 8:10 a.m. will be marked tardy or late.

Student Dismissal
  • Our day ends at 2:45 p.m.
  • Baxter Elementary End of Day Dismissal Procedure: We begin our dismissal process at 2:45 p.m. At this time, students who ride the bus will be walked out to load the buses on the South side of the building. All student pick-up at the end of the day will take place in the front of the school on the east side. Parents/guardians will enter the Pick-Up Loop and remain inside of their vehicles; this is a one-way loop and there is no parking (no exiting your vehicle) in this loop. Students will come out the front door after staff call their names and should enter vehicles from the curbside. Please wait patiently in line with your vehicle, as the line will move quickly. Our Pick-Up Loop has two lanes so that as soon as your child is safely loaded and you are ready, you may carefully pull out into the second lane to go around another vehicle in front of you if they are taking longer to load. Do not park in the north lot and walk up to the front doors to pick up your child. If you need additional time to help buckle a seat belt, you may pull up in the lane past station one and park along the curb to help your child.

End of the Day
If you need to make a change to your child’s end of the day plan (bus or pick up) PLEASE call the main office at 218-454-6400 or message your child’s teacher before 2:00 pm.

Visitors & Volunteers

Visitors
All visitors will need to provide a government issued ID (state ID card, driver’s license, or passport card) when they enter the building as part of our new Raptor security system. The Raptor system scans and processes visitors against a national criminal database to ensure all visitors are safe to visit.  The term “visitor” is intended to identify parents/guardians or community members who participate in large group events, classroom parties, drop off materials in the school office, etc.

Volunteers
*As a reminder, if you plan to volunteer in a classroom, go on a field trip, have lunch with a student or participate with a classroom in any capacity this year, all volunteers are required to fill out the district's volunteer application each new school year. You can find the link below. We highly recommend filling this application out ASAP. This ensures a safe and supportive environment for all students and staff.

Applications take 5-7 business days to be processed by the district.

Our school offers healthy meals each day. Starting the school year 2023-24, we joined Minnesota’s Free School Meals Program. All students can get one breakfast and one lunch free of charge each day at school. Although no application is required to receive this free meal benefit, filling out the educational benefits application is still important. Your child(ren) may qualify for other benefits like reduced fees at school. Your application may also help the school qualify for education funds, discounts, and other meal programs.  The directions for completing the form are linked below: How to Fill out an Online Application for Educational Benefits
